The Center for Computation and Visualization (CCV) provides several virtual reality facilities on the Brown campus for general faculty and student use. This includes the following resources:
The YURT Ultimate Reality Theatre (YURT) is a state of the art projection based VR theatre, with over 69 HD stereo projectors, full 360° surround view, floor and ceiling, and camera based tracking system with submillimeter accuracy. The system is approximately 12x8x9 feet in size, and can accommodate groups up to 10 people. The YURT is coupled to the CCV High Performance computer system, allowing for even more flexibility when visualizing large and complex data sets.
The CAVE is the predecessor to the YURT, sharing many of the YURTs characteristics as well as applications. Arranged in an 8 foot cube, the CAVE utilized 7 stereo projectors and a similar camera based tracking system. Located at the Granoff Center, it is ideal for class use and smaller VR projects.
CCV also provides support and consulting on head mounted displays such as Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, etc. These devices can be accessed in the CCV graphics lab.
