Past Due Payment Reminder

Phish Bowl Alerts

A variation on the Business Executive Compromise (BEC) scam "Available?", this one adds an extra layer by forwarding a past due payment reminder from a law firm, touching three emotional hot spots all at once: legal, money, and authority. Note that neither the law firm nor the sender are identified and the email supposedly from President Paxson is also light on details.

Could we process this outstanding invoice today using ACH
instead of sending a check? This payment is a one-time payment and not recurring.

Subject: Past Due Payment Reminder

Dear Customer,

We are writing to remind you that your account is past due for the consultation services we provided to you. We have made multiple attempts to contact you and request payment, but we have not received any response or payment from you.

As a professional law firm, we take our financial responsibilities seriously and we expect the same level of commitment from our clients. We request that you make immediate payment of the past due amount to bring your account current.
Please be advised that if we do not receive payment within 2 days from the date of this email, we will be forced to take legal action to recover the debt owed to us.

We value our relationship with you and hope to resolve this matter as soon as possible. Please let us know how you intend to proceed with this matter.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
Emily Szatmary
