Fake Conference Sites

Phish Bowl Alerts

Beware of look-alike conference sites that will take your money as well as personal information. While there have been no reports at Brown, other higher ed institutions have alerted us to the fake EDULEARN site that attempts to lure faculty to it.

The scam starts with a phishing email that directs targeted faculty members to the fake conference site (World Research Society), with the same conference title and similar dates. The "registration process" (on an unsecured page -- see screenshot below) requests a $150.00 registration fee as well as a passport number, and a passport quality photo.

The following images offer a contrast of the actual and phony sites so that you may be better able to spot the scams. If you receive one of these, please forward it to phishbowl@brown.edu to alert us to their presence.
