Citibank Scam Phone Messages

Phish Bowl Alerts

Be wary of calls that claim your credit card or bank account has experienced unusual activity and then direct you to press a number to accept or dispute the charge (typically around $1,500). A current phone scam leaves a "Message from CITIBANKONLINE (+18003749700)", spoofing what had at one time been a legitimate Citibank number.

This number has been reported online hundreds of times associated with different scam calls (see CallDetective, EveryCaller, CallCenter, and FindWhoCallsYou for examples). The typical recorded messages claims to be from a Citi fraud specialist reporting that a large sum of money has been charged to the intended victim's account. To dispute and then cancel the transaction, the victim is prompted to provide their card details.

Never respond to these calls. Instead, if you need to contact CitiBank, always use a trusted number, like the one on the back of your debit or credit card, or published on their site at https://online.citi.com/US/ag/security-center.
