Mark Dieterich

Chief Information Security Officer

Biography

Mark Dieterich is Brown’s Chief Information Security Officer. He began his career at Brown in 1997 with the Department of Computer Science, where he held various roles, before eventually being promoted to Chief Information Security Officer in the Office of Information Technology. 

In his current role, Mark is responsible for all aspects of Brown’s cybersecurity ecosystem, including: information security architecture and best practices; directing IT security compliance and risk assessment efforts; leading cybersecurity awareness programs; ensuring appropriate operational security operations; and directing a cyber incident response team. 

Mark has a vast technological background, with experience managing and securing many of the software technologies employed at Brown today. He is a trusted leader with proven talent for establishing collaboration across technical and executive leadership teams. Mark is in touch with legal and regulatory standards surrounding IT and cybersecurity and has extensive familiarity with business management and cybersecurity technologies within the digital ecosystem of the university. Mark is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
