Meet CIS: Robin Carillo

Robin Carillo // Telecom Specialist in Telecommunications

Robin CarilloHow would you describe your professional area within CIS?
I handle the wireless devices for the university and also the voicemail for your desk phones.  I have been at Brown University now approaching my 21st year of service.

What is your background before you started working in CIS at Brown?
When I graduated from high school, I went right into business school and then straight into beauty school.  My goal was to get my business degree, then my license to do hair and open my own salon.

What is your favorite thing about working with CIS?
Working in CIS is great because it really is a "team" effort.  Also, I work with some exceptional people, but what's also great about what we do in CIS is the fact that we get to touch every single department at Brown University. I have met some wonderful people working here for these past 21 years.  I can't speak for all departments, but I have been very fortunate with my immediate supervisor who has always showed me new things and taught me new responsibilities to help me grow within my department.  I have never felt "held back" or that I could not grow in my job.  Working at Brown, I have never woken up in the morning and had that feeling of dread or that I didn't want to come to work.  My group of peers have become like family to me, and we really do work as a team to make everything we do better.

What do you do for fun outside of CIS?
I love spending time with my grandchildren and watching them develop into their own little people.  I also love reading. Mostly, though, I am a  homebody; I love having people over to my house, sitting and eating.  I just really love being with the people that I love.
