Patrick O’Leary // Lead Network Operations Engineer in Network Technology
How would you describe your professional area within CIS?
My team is responsible for keeping Brown's computer networks up and running as close to 24 x 7 x 365 as possible. We handle over 2,000 Deskpro tickets per year and do proactive hardware and software upgrades. We manage approximately 1,400 Cisco routers and switches, and over 5,000 Aruba access points, as well as equipment from InfoBlox and F5. We are essentially Brown's Internet service provider.
What is your background before you started working in CIS at Brown?
I have a BS in Computer Engineering from UMass Dartmouth. I previously worked for the Department of the Navy, NASA, Cisco Systems and Atrion.
What is your favorite thing about working with CIS?
The opportunity to learn new things. There is rarely a day that I go home and can't say, "I learned something new today."
What do you do for fun outside of CIS?
I am an avid golfer and boater. In the winter, I like to ski. We are very fortunate to live in New England where there are fantastic venues for all of these activities. I am also a die-hard Boston sports fan.
