Cy-Bear Aware - National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Logo, bear with thumbs up, and text: How cyber aware are you? Take the Cyber Aware challenge and find out.

This fall we presented National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, when CIS' Information Security Group offered opportunities to increase your knowledge of phishing and social engineering, online safety, mobile device security, and protection of confidential information.

Two staff members sitting behind the informational tableThose opportunities included our information table on:

  • Wednesday, October 10 from 11 AM to 2 PM on the Main Green when we participate in the 14th annual "Be Safe Brown!" Campus Safety Resource Fair sponsored by the Department of Public Safety. Interactive game plus give-aways.
  • Thursday, October 25 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM in the lobby of Page-Robinson Hall (formerly JWW) for info about our services and assistance with setting up Google Two-Step or general questions you might have. We'll also reprise our game and give-aways!

For an online experience, we offered a series of Lynda.com courses through October. For each course successfully completed, the participant was entered in a drawing for an Acer Chromebook 11 plus Brown Bookstore gift certificates. And though October is over, the need to be cy-bear aware remains. Even if you didn't get a chance to take the quizzes, you can visit the courses anytime on Lynda.com by visiting these links:

We leave you with this short video, "FUD! Fear Uncertainty Doubt."  It's from the course "Security Matters (To Everyone)" and describes what information security is (and isn't) plus offers tips when traversing the internet.

CIS' Information Security Group is a proud champion of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
