Throughout October (National Cyber Security Awareness Month), CIS' Information Security Group will offer opportunities to test your knowledge of phishing, protecting your accounts and devices, and avoiding online hazards, as well as Special Events that include pop-up Two Step stations, a panel discussion and a Brown Bag on protecting your credit.

To participate:

  • Visit one of our information tables on Two-Step Tuesdays (or the Safety Fair) to activate Google Two-Step (if you haven't already) and pick up some tips for Duo Two-Step as well. If you can't make it, just activate Google Two-Step. Everyone who has activated it by October 27 is entered in the drawing for a Google Home assistant.
  • Ace the weekly online quizzes for a chance on an Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet.
  • Attend the "Credit Protection" Brown Bag to also be entered in the Amazon Fire drawing.
  • Winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 31st.

Special Events

Safety Resource Fair

Join us Wednesday, October 4 from 11 AM to 2 PM on the Main Green when we participate in the 13th annual "Be Safe Brown!" Campus Safety Resource Fair sponsored by the Department of Public Safety. Interactive game, give-aways plus collect a chance on the drawing.

Two-Step Tuesdays

Stop by one of our pop-up locations for pointers on and assistance with Google Two-Step verification. Everyone who has enabled Google Two-Step for their Brown email by October 27 becomes eligible for a drawing for a Google Home assistant. If you can't make one of these times, visit brown.edu/go/googletwostep for details on how to get started.

Women in Cyber Security Panel

As part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the Women & Technology group and CIS are hosting an informal panel discussion to explore issues related to personal data, privacy & cybersecurity. Panelists include Brown University computer science faculty Anna Lysyanskaya, Professor and Deborah Hurley, Adjunct Professor of the Practice.

Time / Place: Thursday, October 12, 12 PM - 1 PM, CIT 227

Brown Bag on Credit Protection

Security breaches like the recent Equifax incident are a good reminder that you are ultimately responsible for your financial information. What can you do to protect yourself? Join Wynette Zuppardi, Brown's Director of Financial Services, for "What's the Score? Protecting Your Credit", a lunch-time presentation on the importance of credit, your credit score, how to protect it. Bring your questions and your lunch and we'll supply answers and dessert.
