CIS Tech Gift Picks for 2018

Happy winter break from CIS!

Here are some CIS staff members' tech-related gift picks for the 2018 holiday season. We wish you all a fun and safe winter break.

  • Lego Mindstorms ev3A Bluetooth Beanie for dog walking while listening to podcasts or audiobooks.
  • HeartMath Inner Balance Trainer (heart rate variability Bluetooth sensor). Great gift for anyone who has "destress" on their project list!
  • A portable adjustable lap desk to use while telecommuting.
  • Lego MINDSTORMS EV3 lets you build a programmable robot with infrared sensors.
  • I am going to be using the Anova Sous Vide to cook for my family this year.  Anytime I can use something which helps me turn out perfectly cooked meals, I always consider it.
  • Ismart display device'm getting smart displays for my family so we can stay connected with video calling with a low barrier on technical expertise. When you aren't making calls it works as a photo frame, scheduler, and source of weather info. Popular devices are now offered to work with Amazon, Facebook and Google services. I've opted for the Google-based device because the Duo app is free for everyone, plus it has Google Assistant voice search.
  • I've used the Elgato capture device to capture my in-laws old home videos and provide them with copies as a gift. We all ended up watching the videos after Christmas dinner.
  • We wanted my in-laws, who are across the country, to see more of our new baby. We bought a high-quality webcam for the computer that's hooked up to our TV so he can see them on the big screen.
