Phone Scam: Contact tracer soliciting SSN's

The Rhode Island Education Operations Center has received reports of an alleged RI Dept. of Health (RIDOH) contact tracer soliciting the Social Security Number of a COVID-positive student. The student’s information was then used to fraudulently open a credit card account.

Besides your date of birth, RIDOH will never require you to provide any other personally identifying information that could cause fraud or deception. As the holidays draw near, please stay vigilant to ensure your personal information remains safe.

For more information about contact tracing in general, visit RIDOH's page health.ri.gov/covid/. For their scammer response guidelines, download the PDF document Contact tracing call? 5 things to know.
